What happened
Claude 3.7 Sonnet was announced as a hybrid reasoning model with particular strength in coding. The same post introduced Claude Code as a limited research preview: an active collaborator that can search and edit code, write and run tests, and push to GitHub from the terminal. Anthropic said early internal use completed some tasks in a single pass that would normally take 45+ minutes. General availability on 22 May 2025 added IDE integrations and GitHub Actions background tasks. Independent measured productivity remains thin relative to Copilot’s 2022 RCT, so this is scored as a major product/feature launch that changed engineering practice, not as a proven output shock.
